The technical aspects dealing with the design and manufacturing are crucial because they have a direct impact on the final product quality and quantity. For this reason, in the LARAMED group experts in material science and engineering focus on target manufacturing technology task, and a dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/coldlab\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1626\">laboratory <\/a>is under completion. Among the several techniques available, the LARAMED team focused on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-3-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-da8fa9d9820ff6599f3c40ee4cd79b8f\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-theme-palette-1-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5593b8bd94eae5ece89be95d21c4133a\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/sps-2\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"3186\">Spark plasma sintering (SPS)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-theme-palette-1-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-05e687bddf4df77d2706fb8e5b3bca62\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/ms\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1810\">Magnetron sputtering <\/a>(MS)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-theme-palette-1-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8422ed926cb8387ffbd334ab207201b8\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/hivipp\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1804\">High energy vibrational powder plating (HIVIPP)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-3-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2b10b3cd3203774e8e0ec1219a6d265e\" style=\"font-size:18px\">From the first project dedicated to the cyclotron production of&nbsp;<strong><sup>99m<\/sup>Tc<\/strong> starting from&nbsp;<strong><sup>100<\/sup>Mo<\/strong> target (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/apotematechn-osp\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"625\">TECHN-OSP<\/a>), innovative target manufacturing techniques in this field were investigated to overcome the limits of the standard ones.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"990\" height=\"745\" src=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/example_target.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2051\" style=\"width:319px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/example_target.jpg 990w, https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/example_target-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/example_target-768x578.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 990px) 100vw, 990px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Example of Target<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-3-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-11f4f1bc8ee5af376563c528f0392f14\" style=\"font-size:18px\">It is important to underline the crucial step of target characterization exploiting, for example, the Elastic BackScattering (EBS), the Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE), the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis and other methods available at the INFN-LNL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-3-color has-text-color\">The routine supply, in due amounts, of batches for some of emerging medical radionuclides (e.g.,&nbsp;<strong><sup>67<\/sup>Cu<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><sup>155<\/sup>Tb<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><sup>89<\/sup>Zr<\/strong> and&nbsp;<strong><sup>52g<\/sup>Mn<\/strong>) is currently limited due to the lack of suitable targets exploiting the cyclotron-driven production routes. The R&amp;D on alternative targetry technology is indeed one of key R&amp;D items of the LARAMED project, also in <a href=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/LARAMED\/collaborations\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"172\">collaboration <\/a>with the Universities of Padova and of Pavia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-3-color has-text-color\">Several technologies are being investigated and will be included in the new dedicated lab under construction, to manufacture solid targets considering&nbsp;different materials and fulfilling all the technical requirements for medical radionuclide production.
