The combination of an innovative fibre positioning scheme and a channel compression system allows the creation of low-cost, high-performance residual energy tracers and detectors with application in radiography, tomography and the qualification of beams for hadrontherapy.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=&#8221;4571&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; qode_css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #20415c;\">How does it work?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]The greatest advantage to be gained from the use of charged particle beams in hadrontherapy, as well as in other areas of application, is obtained when precise information on the power for stopping the particles used for hadrontherapy treatment is available: the direct use of this information leads to a more precise assessment of the dose distribution.<\/p>\n<p>The invention consists of a method and two devices specially designed for particle imaging applications for diagnostics and beam monitoring. The use of scintillating fibres for the design of the detectors is advantageous due to their fast response and water equivalence. The technology developed takes advantage of these prerogatives and adds a smart read-out strategy. The architecture of these detectors is designed to be modular and the devices can operate in combined or stand-alone mode.
