Le malattie prioniche, o encefalopatie spongiformi trasmissibili, sono causate dalla trasformazione della proteina prionica normale (PrPC) in una forma anomala e mal ripiegata (PrPSc) che si accumula nel sistema nervoso centrale.<\/p>\n<p>La presente tecnologia permette l\u2019utilizzo di un nuovo metodo per sviluppare farmaci, chiamato PPI-FIT, che permette di identificare piccole molecole capaci di legarsi a una forma temporanea e instabile della proteina prionica PrPC, favorendone la degradazione prima che diventi funzionale.
