I sensori FBG standard, essendo costituiti da materiali chimicamente e fisicamente inerti, sono in grado di rivelare solo la deformazione indotta da un segnale che si propaga nella fibra ottica. Circondando il dispositivo FBG con materiali microporosi, come le zeoliti, \u00e8 possibile non solo registrare la deformazione del materiale ma anche correlarla alle condizioni ambientali a cui il sensore \u00e8 esposto.
