Sul catodo vi \u00e8 un emettitore di elettroni, di solito un filamento che eroga fino a qualche decina di mA di elettroni nel vuoto attraverso emissione termoionica, alimentato con potenze elettriche di una decina di watt. Tali tubi hanno due limitazioni fondamentali:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>tensione e corrente non possono essere variate in empi brevi, dell\u2019ordine dei millisecondi, a causa dell\u2019inerzia termica del filamento. Questo limita l\u2019utilizzo in alcune pratiche radiologiche.<\/li>\n<li>Nei tubi radiogeni attualmente in commercio, l\u2019anodo \u00e8 posto in alta tensione ed \u00e8 costituito da un pezzo di tungsteno immerso in un cilindro di rame, disposto a 45\u00b0 rispetto al fascio elettronico incidente. Per tensioni attorno a 100 kV, l\u2019efficienza di produzione di raggi X \u00e8 dell\u20191%.
