The detection of “strangelets”, small fragments of Strange Quark Matter, would settle the debate on the true ground state of nuclear matter. Several searches have been made to look for strangelets on the cosmic radiation and for testing models of their propagation through the atmosphere. In this talk the status of the searches for SQM nuggest is reviewed; the results of an open air search based on nuclear track detectors, carried out at different high altitude locations in India are presented.
