The ideas of holography gave a new perspective on a number of old questions in theoretical physics ranging from quark confinement in strong interactions, hydrodynamics of strongly-coupled plasmas to transport in the quantum critical regime. Holography relates these highly non-trivial questions to gravitational dynamics in curved space-time.
