A quick review on how radiation affects deep sub-micron electronics is given, together with examples of a few ASICs recently used in the Electronics Division of INFN Bologna. A great emphasis is also given to the FPGA devices: since they are now being used closer to the detector than they used to be in the past, the necessity of choosing the right devices and protecting them from unwanted effects arises.
