{"id":729,"date":"2020-07-14T12:21:36","date_gmt":"2020-07-14T10:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/lhcb_milano\/?page_id=729"},"modified":"2020-11-30T15:44:54","modified_gmt":"2020-11-30T14:44:54","slug":"physics-and-data-analysis","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/lhcb_milano\/physics-and-data-analysis\/","title":{"rendered":"Physics and Data Analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Milano group is involved in several research topics<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"block-1876c1b2-12cc-4b9e-bbc7-8b171daa1eb9\"><li><strong>Indirect CP asymmetries<\/strong> in D<sup>0<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2192 K<sup>\u2013<\/sup>&nbsp;K<sup>+<\/sup>&nbsp;and D<sup>0<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2192 \u03c0<sup>\u2212<\/sup>&nbsp;\u03c0<sup>+<\/sup>&nbsp; decays using semileptonic B decays. More recently, we have led the analysis of the decays \u039b<sub>b<\/sub><sup>0<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2192 p \u03c0<sup>+<\/sup>&nbsp;\u03c0<sup>\u2013<\/sup>&nbsp;\u03c0<sup>+<\/sup>&nbsp;and \u039b<sub>b<\/sub><sup>0<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2192 K<sup>\u2212<\/sup>&nbsp;\u03bc<sup>+<\/sup>&nbsp;\u03bc<sup>\u2212<\/sup>.<\/li><li><strong>Spectroscopy of new baryonic and mesonic states.<\/strong> We are interested in the discovery of new states predicted by the Standard Model, but yet unobserved experimentally. We exploit the large dataset collected by the LHCb experiment to access new final states unexplored.<\/li><li><strong>Rare decays and the search for exotic multi-quark states<\/strong>. The measurement of the decay B<sub>s<\/sub><sup>0<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2192 J\/\u03c8&nbsp;\\rm p \\overline{\\rm p}pp\u200b&nbsp;has produced the most precise measurement of the B<sub>s<\/sub><sup>0<\/sup>&nbsp;mass to date. It has also opened a promising path to search for pentaquark states in the proton-J\/\u03c8 system.<\/li><li><strong>EDM and MDM of long lived particles<\/strong>. Several analysis activities are linked to the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/web.infn.it\/SELDOM\/\" target=\"_blank\">SELDOM project<\/a>. SELDOM is an ERC funded project to explore new techniques to search for the electric dipole moment (EDM) and measure the magnetic dipole moment (MDM) of heavy unstable particles, particularly charm and strange baryons. The existence of an EDM violates CP symmetry; it is therefore another possible source of CP violation that could explain the matter\/anti-matter imbalance problem. As a part of this project, the group has worked out an amplitude analysis and polarisation measurement for the decay \u039b<sub>c<\/sub><sup>+<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2192 p K<sup>\u2013<\/sup>&nbsp;\u03c0<sup>+<\/sup>.
