DESCRIPTION:During the 2026 OpenLabs event at INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (LNF)\, visitors were welcomed by early-career researchers actively contributing to the NEMESIS project. In the featured picture\, two young scientists introduce the Mu2e experiment\, presenting its scientific goals and detector technologies through a dedicated poster. The event provided a valuable opportunity to foster dialogue between science and society while showcasing the enthusiasm\, expertise\, and active contribution of the next generation of researchers involved in the NEMESIS project.\n\n\nAs part of the outreach activities\, the NEMESIS team also organized an interactive laboratory focused on the Mu2e experiment\, currently under construction at Fermilab (near Chicago\, USA). The activity introduced visitors to one of the experiment’s main scientific goals: the search for the spontaneous conversion of a muon into an electron\, an extremely rare process that\, if observed\, would provide clear evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model. \nParticipants discovered how Mu2e is designed to identify such rare events and to reject background signals with extraordinary precision. Particular attention was devoted to cosmic rays\, one of the main sources of background for the experiment. Through a hands-on demonstration\, visitors learned how these particles\, constantly arriving from outer space\, can be detected and studied using dedicated detector systems similar to those employed in Mu2e. \nLNF has played a key role in the construction of the Mu2e electromagnetic calorimeter\, contributing to the development of the advanced detector technologies required to achieve the experiment’s unprecedented sensitivity. \nPhotos from the Mu2e outreach laboratory during OpenLabs 2026: \n
