New Website!
Nuclear.fi has a brand new website! Check our activities and learn more about our work on:https://web.infn.it/nuclear.fi The old website (https://web.infn.it/nuclear_physics_firenze) will be closed soon.

Research
Modern Nuclear Physics aims to achieve a detailed understanding of the strong force to describe the nuclear system and its interactions. There is not yet a Standard Model for the atomic nucleus, and some reaction mechanisms occurring in modern reactors and in stars are still not fully understood. Nevertheless, our knowledge of the atomic nucleus has advanced tremendously over the last century, enabling the development of numerous nuclear technologies that influence our daily lives. Our research group works at various levels of nuclear physics, exploring the fermi scale (i.e., 10⁻¹⁵ meters!). We also use the atomic nucleus as a quantum laboratory to study fundamental interactions and astrophysics. In addition, we specialize in developing advanced technologies for detecting ionizing radiation and the associated electronics.

Teaching
Check out the Nuclear Physics courses offered by our group at the University of Florence and the opportunities for theses. We strongly believe in Article 33 of the Italian Constitution: “Art and Science are free, and free is their teaching”. The Nuclear Physics group of Florence does not discriminate against sex, religion, political beliefs, sexual orientation, sexual identity, or any other characteristic. Everyone is welcome.

Outreach
We are involved in several outreach activities at all levels, from children and high-school students to the general public. Contact us if you want to learn more about Nuclear Physics and have fun while doing it.
