SPES has been projected taking into account the use of the secondary output of the cyclotron to produce neutron beams for technological and biomedical applications.

One of these possible applications is the radionuclei production for medical uses as proposed by the Laramed (LAboratory for the Production of RAdioisotopes for MEDicine) collaboration.
