CHNet_NICHE has the goal to develop the first Italian facility for neutron radiography and tomography to be specifically designed for Cultural Heritage diagnostic purposes. The facility is being under construction and test at the TRIGA reactor of LENA, Pavia.

Involved units: Firenze (RN), Bologna, Milano Bicocca, Pavia, Torino.

National coordinators: Nicla Gelli and Francesco Grazzi; Firenze local coordinator: Nicla Gelli

ISPIRA (Integrazioni di metodologie SPerimentali per la Ricerca sull’Aerosol carbonioso) is working on the development and the optimization of Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) for radiocarbon concentration determination and measurements of absorbance of particulate matter with the aim at characterizing the carbon fraction of aerosol.

Involved units: Milano (RN), Firenze, Genova.

Firenze local coordinator: Mariaelena Fedi

The goal of IS-ABS (Integrated System for Aerosol and Bioaerosol Studies at the Pierre Auger Observatory) is implementing an integrated system for the study of aerosol and bioaerosol installed at the Pierre Auger observatory, Argentina). This observatory represents a good example of remote site for the suty of particulate matter. The new system will couple in situ and remote sensing devices. The experiment will also focus on possible relations between particulate matter properties and cosmic rays.

Involved units: Lecce (RN), Firenze, Genova.

Firenze local coordinator: Giulia Calzolai

The experiments aims at monitoring and studying the particulate matter dispersion in closed environments, also considering the diffusion of viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2, and bacteria, to define a strategy to reduce the action of those pathogens.

Involved units: Lecce (RN), Firenze.
