Spin off. Since its foundation, from the INFN several new high-tech companies were founded. Some of these companies, which today we would call "spin off", were born and grew under the sponsorship of the Institute, becoming consolidated companies in their field. Today the INFN's attention to business creation has grown: by providing technology, services and connection with the main actors involved in innovation, the INFN supports the staff who intend to follow the path of entrepreneurship. A selective evaluation process has also been structured so that a spin off to be certified by the INFN. Research to Innovation Network (R2I): a CERN - INFN partnership for Business Incubation Centres (BIC). In a highly competitive and competitive-cooperative environment, know-how and cutting-edge technologies in the field of high energy physics are constantly being developed at INFN and CERN. INFN and CERN created the R2I network with the aim of improving the impact of these technologies on society. R2I-Network is the Italian network of BIC (Business Incubation Centres) that have access to CERN and INFN technologies. By integrating the incubation and the acceleration capacity of BICs with high-tech expertise, the INFN intends to create the best conditions able to favor the birth of Italian start-ups and make them grow rapidly.
