Networks

Purpose of Networks

(Self-)organising the INFN accelerator community into national clusters that operate cohesively, achieve critical mass, exchange information in a structured manner and ultimately operate as a single large laboratory with greater international significance than groups of individual laboratories/sections.

Already be organised and thus facilitate participation in EU-funded or national/regional R&D projects
Already be organised and thus facilitate participation in the development and construction of research infrastructures
Establish structured relationships both at the level of INFN (and other) researchers/technologists and with industry

Definition of Network
A network is an extended laboratory of related skills or functions in the various areas of INFN’s accelerators.

Following the organisation of the competence map (rows and columns) we have distinguished two types of networks:

(thematic) competence networks (e.g. superconductivity magnets and rf, high gradient and ancillary instrumentation, sources, diagnostics, vacuum) specific, with many applications
Functional networks (e.g. applications, medicine, materials, energy), with many cross-cutting technologies (simulations, theory, RF, magnets, vacuum, ..)
