WELCOME TO CMS PADOVA GROUP INITIAL CHECK LIST

Current CMS Responsabile Locale(RL): Patrizia Azzi (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

  • IF YOU ARE A NEW STUDENT (Triennale, Master or PHD):

  • CMS CERN REGISTRATION: register with CERN as CMS student. Different options are available that you should discuss with the CMS RL depending on your needs (being at CERN or not)

  • INFN ASSOCIATION (Master/PhD only): register as a INFN Student Associate: go to the INFN Secretariat and ask for the procedure, need grade average >26/30

  • ACCESS TO INFN Padova COMPUTING RESOURCES:
    • 1. To get a local account on the computers of the INFN Section of Padova you must first have obtained an AAI account of type LoA2 (Level of Assurance 2). Follow the instructions available in the official INFN Digital Identity guide https://wiki.infn.it/cn/ccr/aai/doc/rid/istruzioni/userportal/user_loa-eng . Please make sure that following the guide above you also declare to have read and accepted the INFN rules for the use of IT resources.
      • AAI accounts do not expire, so if in the past you have had a local account with INFN even in another section or have used resources such as agenda.infn.it (INDICO of INFN) or Cloud INFN, you almost certainly already have an AAI account. You just need to reset the password if it has expired.
    • 2. The procedure for requesting and creating a local account is completely computerized, the portal is accessible at https://calcolo.pd.infn.it (select english with "cambia lingua" in the menu at the top right of the page). WARNING: if you need to access CMS local resources (as the t2-ui-xx user interfaces, to read and write data in the lustre system and to use the HTCondor local batch system, you must specify in the request form "I need an account to access CMS local resources"

  • ACCESS TO CLOUDVENETO:
    • To be able to use the CloudVeneto service, first of all you need to apply for an account. Moreover, CloudVeneto CMS is an INFN project, it means you must be compliant with INFN rules to use the resources (read the https://userguide.cloudveneto.it/en/latest/Registration.html for all the details):
        • you must already have an LoA2 identity on INFN-AAI, declare to have read and accepted the INFN rules for the use of IT resources (see 1. of "ACCESS TO INFN Padova COMPUTING RESOURCES")
        • have followed the “Corso di Sicurezza Informatica - BASE” https://elearning.infn.it/course/view.php?id=105
      • if you have to create VMs using the dedicated image to simulate the local userinterfaces t2-ui-xx, you need to have a local account, as explained in the point 2. of "ACCESS TO INFN Padova COMPUTING RESOURCES"
      • Read the user guide before starting to use the cloud https://userguide.cloudveneto.it/en/latest/index.html
  • TRAVEL(BASIC): If you need to travel:
    • first you need to be registered with INFN.
    • you need to open a "Missione" with INFN (details of how this works to be discussed with your supervisor). An information email to the RL is strongly suggested.
    • you might need to declare or open a "Missione" also with UniPD (there could be money for travel, certainly for PhDs)
    • You need to keep good track of all your expenses
    • once back you need to "Close" the INFN missione to be reimbursed (supervisor can help if you have questions)

  • TRAVEL(Advanced): Read here before contacting RL or Ufficio Missioni (Giulia Coltri)
  • if you have been invited to give a talk/poster at a Conference, the Missione can be split 50% (after approval, i.e. sending mail to the Gruppo1 responsabile+RL) between CMS and DotGr1
    • when you fly the default airport is Venice and the default train station is Padova. For departures from any other location you need to show proof that there is a good reason and it is cheaper
    • The default reimbursable way to reach the Venice airport from Padova is the Bus (Busitalia Veneto Navetta) from the Padova train station, 13euro (one person with luggage)

- NOTE:

- bus/tram ticket to reach Padova train/bus station is NOT refundable

- bus/tram tickect from airport/train station at CERN are refundable if used in the   day of travel to/from Padova, but you need to keep the physical ticket

- if the flight from Venice is at very early/very late hours the navette airService could           be used instead (needs to be an acceptable justification, check before booking)
