The CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) experiment is one of the main detectors at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. It studies high-energy proton collisions to explore the fundamental structure of matter. CMS was crucial to the 2012 discovery of the Higgs boson.
The CMS group of Padova and Cagliari participated in the design, testing, construction and installation of the muon chambers of the inner barrel tracker (TIB), and contributed to the definition of the trigger and the data acquisition system of the experiment. The group is currently very involved in the Upgrade of the CMS detector for the High-Luminosity running phase.
