Particulate Matter in Arctic: a new study published

A new study on particulate matter in Arctic has been recently published on Nature Geoscience. The research, which LABEC has collaborated to, shows an equal abundance of organic aerosol in summer and in winter. The organic fraction of aerosol is the most abundant component in particulate matter, but also – still – the least understood. For this study, samples coming from 8 different laboratories and collected between 2014 and 2019 were analyzed. Arctic is a fundamental are for climate studies. Indeed, the region is extremely sensitive to climate changes and, as far as aerosol plays a significant role in radiative balance, a complete characterization of its components and its possible sources of emissions is of fundamental importance. This also allows improving previsions of current climate models.
