We study possible extensions of the standard model that are asymptotically safe. A first analysis of models with additional vector-like fermions has been completed: all of them seem either not pertubatively stable or to contain a Landau pole. the embedding of the standard model gauge group into a GUT group like SU(5) seems to lead to the Gaussian fixed point as the only viable asymptoticay  safe solution.

Local research activities can be developed in such a context.
