
LANTERN aims to be a calibration tool for phonon-mediated Kinetic Inductance Detectors that employs bursts of photon pulses to deposit a very accurate amount of energy in the silicon substrate of the detector. Using multiple short bursts allows for a precise control of the number of photons that strike the detectors resulting in a precise calibration of the detectors response as a function of the deposited energy. LANTERN aims at being used to calibrate the full 4” wafer simultaneously using a optical-fibre coupled LED source per each KID on the wafer.
