Public

INFN is the Italian research body that, with a scientific network distributed throughout the national territory, studies the fundamental constituents of the matter through the development of high-tech instruments and equipment. The innovation generated by the Institute’s scientific research can result in an important impact on society by making available the competences, infrastructures and technologies that the body has developed in various sectors such as: health, the environment, cultural heritage, security, aerospace but also innovative technologies for the new generation of supercomputing. The INFN Technology Transfer consists of a unit dedicated to valorising and bringing to market the innovations produced by the Institute through the enhancement of specific action tools.

Sharing INFN’s results and know-how in this area allows us to unveil the contribution given by INFN to topics that are seemingly far away from its primary activities but very close to society.

HEALTH

The activities carried out at INFN in the field of medical applications of physics, in collaboration with the medical and industrial worlds, make it possible to transfer innovations that are important for the health of citizens, on several fronts such as cancer prevention, diagnostics and treatment.

ENVIRONMENT

Air and water pollution, the sustainable use of natural resources, and the containment of climate change are some of the global environmental challenges that are the focus of attention today in which INFN can make its contribution in the field of monitoring environmental radioactivity and the study of air quality.

CULTURAL HERITAGE

There are numerous applications derived from INFN-developed technologies that are instrumental in the preservation, interpretation and management of cultural heritage. In this regard, INFN has set up INFN-CHNet (Cultural Heritage Network), a research network and distributed service infrastructure for the transfer of knowledge and technology to public and private sector players.

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES

The Information and Communication Technology sector has become very popular in recent decades. In this field, technological innovation has developed integrated communication systems, for example through the Internet, wireless networks, mobile phones and other means of communication that are present in many aspects of our daily lives. INFN is actively participating in this technological revolution.
