The Project

The INFN.Open project – Open INnovation from Fundamental Nuclear research – aims to strengthen INFN’s technical and organisational capacities and competences to enhance the scientific and technological knowledge developed by the body itself in carrying out research experiments in fundamental physics.

Through the project, the Institute intends to effectively promote the valorisation processes, in order to contribute to the technological and industrial innovation of the country system.

 

Specifically, the project aims to:

 

      1. optimize the management of the technology transfer pathways to the system of the companies;
      2. strengthen INFN’s capacity to qualify as a driver of the national system of innovation and technological development.

Objectives

INFN.Open will build the basis for knowledge transfer to become a shared practice by the entire Institute community, thus making the developed technological solutions available to the business world. The project intends to:

 

  • provide the Institute with an effective system for scouting and managing technological development initiatives aimed at the go-to-market;
  • develop a permanent Intellectual Property Management (IPM) system functional to the technological development initiatives undertaken;
  • support the organizational modernization of the Institute in terms of technology transfer;
  • launch a Social Impact Innovation pathway to support the implementation and management of the Institute’s research and technology transfer actions.

Expected results

INFN.Open intends to achieve the following results:

 

  • Creation of a structured model for the identification of initiatives of industrial interest and collaboration models with industrial partners;
  • Activation of an internal Knowledge Exploitation Unit (KEU);
  • Definition of tools to support the scouting of industrial initiatives;
  • Creation of training and awareness-raising paths for internal staff on the exploitation of the industrial potential of the research activities carried out;
  • Definition of a structured model built on INFN’s peculiarities for sharing public intellectual property with the private sector;
  • Definition of a set of indicators for monitoring Social Impact Innovation.
