ASIX_MVP

The project aims to build a demonstrator of a new class of X-ray detectors that simultaneously possess high spectral and spatial resolution, and can be used in material analysis equipment such as diffractometry, fluorescence and micro computed tomography.

The new device combines the advantageous features of various detection technologies available today:

    • a large-area, high-density pixel matrix;
    • pixel-integrated low-noise signal processing electronics;
    • configurable trigger and analogue readout logic;
    • high photon-to-charge conversion efficiency.

The architecture of the dedicated ASIC ensures complete processing of every single photon converted by the sensor so that all information on position, energy and time of arrival of the signal is available. The system will have position resolution of about 10 µm and energy resolution of a few hundred eV; the maximum rate obtainable is tens of kHz, which can be increased to 1 MHz with a new generation of chips.
