FLASHDOS is an electron dosimeter with a linear response up to extreme intensities (10 MGy/s), capable of guaranteeing a linear response in the intensity range expected for FLASH radiotherapy.
The concept behind FLASH radiotherapy is to deliver the radiation in very short beams (<100 ms) but with very high dose rates. It has been verified that in this way, with the same effective treatment of the tumour, the damage to healthy tissue is very limited and hence the patient’s well-being is improved. <

One problem that emerges, however, is the lack of adequate dosimetry systems, in fact, when the dose rate passes from fractions of Gy/s to MGy/s, traditional dosimeters lose linearity and are no longer suitable for measurements.
FLASHDOS is a new type of dosimeter, not based on traditional ionization chamber, semiconductor, scintillator or diamond technologies, it is compact and lightweight, and allows linear and reproducible measurements of up to 30 Gy/pulse, with a very high resistance to radiation damage, characteristics that make it suitable for dosimetry in the FLASH field.
