MuLiner

MuLiner aims to develop a system for monitoring tall structures (bridges, wind turbines, buildings, towers, etc.) using muons of cosmic origin. The design of the system is optimized to reduce instrumentation and installation costs to ensure wide adoption in the field of structural integrity monitoring of buildings.

The system consists of a series of detectors installed at different positions in the building that reconstruct the track of individual penetrating muons; the displacement of the individual detectors from their initial position is calculated through the changes in the tracks in the detectors themselves.

MuLiner’s detectors are designed to have low manufacturing costs and to be compatible with mass production processes, so that mass adoption of the system is possible.
MuLiner’s technology allows for continuous, real-time monitoring of the structural integrity of the buildings, with accuracy and precision comparable to those of solutions currently on the market, based for example on inertial sensors or GPS receivers, without the need for complicated installations or major maintenance.
