RAPID-2

It is a wearable wireless dosimeter, designed to monitor the radiation dose to which personnel involved in interventional radiology procedures (doctors, radiology technicians, etc.) are exposed. The dosimeters are connected to a control system based on boards with a Linux operating system capable of simultaneously controlling all the detectors present in the operating theatre, so that the dose of all exposed personnel can be monitored in real time and the data can be downloaded and saved for subsequent analysis.

The dosimeter can work over a wide range of energies and guarantees accuracy in the order of 5%.

The immediate benefits of this technology are:

    • high wearability of the device (watch size, battery power, wireless data transmission);
    • very precise dose-rate measurement, even at low flows;
    • recording the measurement of each dosimeter during the individual procedure, allowing the automation of dosimetric data processing and the simplification of the surveillance work of healthcare personnel by the Medical Physician;
    • better definition of the risk levels associated with the various operators present during the procedures;
    • possibility of correlating the absorbed dose-rate peaks with the activities actually carried out during procedures, and thus of optimizing the procedures themselves to reduce the total dose absorbed by medical personnel.
