RPC Detector Performance Group

rpc-radio Our group leads the offline analysis to monitor the performance of the CMS-RPC system. We have the convenership of the groop and the responsibility for the local reconstruction of the RPCs, High Voltage calibration, efficiency and resolution studies.

RPC Techincal coordination

cosmic_craft09

Our group is responsible of the Technical Coordination for the CMS RPC detector, meaning the coordination of all the actions needed on the detector hardware during the installation, maintenance and operation periods.
In 2009 all the RPC chambers were successfully installed both in the barrel and endcaps.

RPC construction

muon_detectorResistive Plate Chambert (RPC) are part of CMS muon detector system. Their main use is to provide a trigger for events which contain muons. Naples group participated to the construction of the RPC system, High Voltage and Low Voltage systems for CMS RPC.

Single-top production at LHC

singletop

The top quark is produced at LHC through electroweak processes in association with light quarks or W bosons. It takes the name single top to emphasize its difference with the top quark-antiquark pairs production processes. The main production mechanism, happening through W boson exchange in the t-channel, allows to probe the electroweak sector of top quark physics through precision measurements of observables like the top quark polarization and the helicity of the W boson produced in the top quark decays. Single-top processes provide independent routes to measure fundamental parameters of the standard model like the top quark mass and the CKM matrix element Vtb.

The CMS Napoli group is involved in all t-channel production measurements since the very first evidence of such process at the LHC obtained in 2011 through measurements of the angular properties of top-quark candidate decay products, up to the latest measurements in Run-II.
We have been involved in several properties and top quark mass measurements, as well as the search for the s-channel single-top.
