Method and apparatus for the atomic-molecular analysis of a fluid in the gaseous state

The invention refers to the realisation of an apparatus and method for the atomic-molecular analysis of a fluid in the gaseous state by means of an opto-electronic approach.

How does it work?

The aim of the present invention is a method for conducting an accurate atomic-molecular analysis of a fluid sample in the gaseous state, so as to detect any residual gas in it, under varying pressure conditions.

The analysis method consists of generating a laser beam through a special device and concentrating it on the fluid inside a collection chamber. This creates an electric field in a part of the fluid volume, sufficient to excite the electrons of the atoms and molecules present in the gaseous state. These electrons, bound with energies between about 1 and 10 eV, undergo an alteration, thus changing the atomic or molecular structure of the fluid in the examined area. The method therefore involves detecting the elements emitted after focusing the beam on the fluid, through detection means, and analysing the detected elements by means of a processing unit.

The technique used in the present invention is easier to implement and use than traditional techniques. In addition, the apparatus used is small in size and suitable for transport, so that analyses can be carried out on site.

Applications

  • Purification of gaseous effluents;
  • Analysis of exhaust gas and contaminant detection.

Advantages

  • Simple technique that is easy to implement;
  • No pressure limitation;
  • Adjustment of the laser beam emitted by the laser device based on different analysis approaches;
  • Small in size and suitable for transport.
