Cone Beam X-ray Computed Tomography Scanner

The present invention concerns a cone beam X-ray computed tomography (CBCT) scanner with a multiple source configuration designed to improve quantitative evaluations.

How does it work?

CBCT technology makes it possible to obtain three-dimensional images of the internal structure of a subject by collecting X-ray projections acquired from different angles. However, this technique has some inherent limitations that reduce the accuracy and quality of reconstructions.
The subject-matter of the present invention is a cone beam tomography scanner with multiple sources for quantitative studies (qCBCT). The goal is to overcome the limitations and improve the CBCT technology, making it more suitable also for quantitative evaluations, i.e. those that require precise and reliable measurements.

Applications

  • In addition to applications in the medical field, there are also benefits linked to the use in analysis and quality control of industrial products.

Advantages

  • Improved image quality;
  • Low-contrast lesion visibility;
  • Artifact reduction;
  • Useful FOV extension;
  • Advanced clinical applications;
  • Low cost.
