Home » Device and method for measuring the relative time of arrival of signals

Dispositivo e metodo per la misurazione del tempo relativo di arrivo dei segnali

The technology refers to a device for measuring the relative time of arrival between at least two signals. This device includes at least one TDC (Time-to-Digital Converter), which receives a reference clock signal defining the oscillation period. Each TDC is provided with at least one channel configured to detect the time of arrival of an event signal. The technology further comprises a corresponding method for taking the measurement of the relative time of arrival between at least two signals.

How does it work?

The aim of the patented technology is to provide a device and a method for measuring the relative time of arrival between at least two signals. In particular, the invention aims to realize a device and an associated method capable of synchronizing a large number of electronic devices on the same time scale, being particularly effective in measuring the relative time of arrival of asynchronous signals with accuracy in the order of picoseconds, over time intervals of a few tens of nanoseconds.

Applications

  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner;
  • TOF cameras;
  • Light detection and measurement.

Advantages

  • High timing accuracy;
  • Management of asynchronous signals;
  • Applicability in different environments;
  • Repeatable and stable measurements.
