Perovskite charged particle tracer

Charged particle tracer whose sensing element is a hybrid perovskite crystal. Unlike a counter, a tracer also allows to reconstruct the trajectory of particles and not just to count them. This perovskite tracer has a higher radiation resistance than conventional silicon devices and can also repair itself after radiation damage.

How does it work?

The sensing element is a hybrid perovskite crystal grown using a patented microfluidic technique that allows high quality crystals with desired shapes and sizes to be obtained. The production process takes place at room temperature, so no special precautions are required and it is compatible with the growth on flexible, high temperature-sensitive substrates.

Possible applications

  • High radiation resistance and the self-repairing ability make possible the use thereof as particle tracers for FLASH radiotherapy;
  • They can also be used in the scientific field for the diagnostics of the accelerator beams;
  • Usable for safety in nuclear power plants.

Advantages

  • Resistance to high doses thanks also to the self-repairing ability of the sensing element;
  • Detector geometry can be optimized by controlling crystal growth;
  • Low cost;
  • Possibility of growth on flexible substrates.
