eTRAM is a portable device that provides random, non-repeatable number sequences based on the detection of atmospheric muons. It works off-line and can be used in computer security systems, in cryptography, to perform simulations and in all areas where random values are required.
The device identifies the passage of muons, to which we are constantly exposed, records their energy and instant of arrival, and on the basis of these parameters it is able to provide sequences of random numbers.

The extreme randomness of the phenomenon with which muons are generated – interaction of cosmic rays with the atmosphere – ensures that the produced sequences are truly random, hence not reproducible. TRAM works in any environment and does not need any internet connection, which makes it totally immune to cyber attacks.
It can be miniaturized and installed directly on PCs or associated with devices such as credit cards.
