!CHAOS – CONTROL AS A SERVICE PLATFORM

INTRODUCTION
!CHAOS is a cloud-aware platform, providing control services for any context where a huge amount of data has to be acquired and processed. Due to its versatility and scalability, !CHAOS has evolved from a Control System for Big Science Installations to a Cloud Service suitable for industrial, social, environmental and consumer applications. In facts, it is currently used in industrial plants as an instrument for predictive diagnostic of failures in the production lines.



TECHNICAL FEATURES
The !CHAOS project (Control system based on Highly Abstracted and Open Structure) aims to develop a new concept of control system and data acquisition framework by providing, with a high level of abstraction, all the services needed for controlling and managing a large scientific (i.e. particle accelerators) or non-scientific infrastructure. !CHAOS capabilities regard both standalone applications and distributed ones, in which any spread node allows to manage wide contexts. Furthermore !CHAOS redefines the Control System paradigm by introducing the new concept of “Control as a Service”, i.e. a cloud-like control system available to many classes of users for different purposes: !CHAOS is a distributed, scalable provider that offers high-performance services such as data sharing, commands dispatching, continuous historical data archiving, configuration tools and middle-layer resource management.
